Individual
Reflection
Research Methodology is one of
the core subjects for all post graduate degree students at the Master’s level. As
the name suggested, sometimes it makes me wonder... I am taking Master of Education
in TESL but why on earth should I need to study research methodology and yet
all the SPSS statistics too. After going through all the 14 weeks, I get some
good answers to that question. First and foremost, it is a compulsory course in
order to graduate degree that is recognized and of course, it shall satisfy
certain criteria like possess knowledge of research methods and statistics. So,
here I am...
When
I first joined the class, I remembered Dr. Teoh asked the students to create
own sort of blog. This is awesome man! I am now having my own official blog and
becoming a blogger, officially. I know my page isn’t looked its best but at
least the contents aren’t be seen such a
plain ugly, cramped, disorganized, or messy, in which friends may
just click on and click off. By the way, I am proud to present my own blog that
I have always dreamed about.
Back to our business, I have to
be honest, this course requires me to spend a great deal of time reading about
research especially in completing my Research Proposal. Personally, I believe
that in order to read about research with understanding and critical mind, one
needs to understand the research process – so I need to study research methods.
This is also applicable in doing the assignment on Article Review which
contributes to 15% of the assessment marks. Basically, I need to be able to
evaluate the findings and compare with other researches in the same field to
see the most relevant methods to be used in the study. Having studied research
methodology enables me to make better decisions based on those different
methods and varied data findings.
Apart
from the e-Portfolio, research proposal, and article review, my knowledge of
research methodology course is assessed through two different quizzes. The first
quiz carries 10% and the second quiz carries 15% of total marks. Thank God, I
am so happy once I received the result of my first quiz, and now I couldn’t wait
to know the result from the second quiz. My aim is to strive for an A in this
course. Additionally, the students were asked to do some presentations with
their partner. I worked with Kartena Kontesta, who is my colleague too. Our
presentation was about Qualitative Data Analysis. The presentation went
smoothly and everyone seemed to be understood, I hope.
In
short, I find learning about research methodology course is neither so hard nor
boring. Initially, it is hard because there are a lot of things involved in a
research study and they need to be put together properly. But, most importantly,
we have to plan. If everything follows to plan accordingly, the journey will be
a smooth and enjoyable one partnered with great result. So dearest friends,
have your good time in your journey to complete the research proposal and may
success be with us.
